It is 10 in the morning on 24th June. There is a crowd slowly gathering outside entrance of Shanghai Ocean Aquarium. Suddenly, music booms from the speakers, a group of energetic young dancers started moving and grooving to the beat, and out of nowhere, the aquarium’s mascots appeared to join the crowd! This scene took the surrounding crowd of visitors by surprise – phones were whipped out, cameras flashed, and the atmosphere was charged with palatable excitement at this curious sight.
This flash mob is one of the events organized to officially kick-start the series of activities celebrating and commemorating Shanghai Ocean Aquarium’s 10th Anniversary. “It is our hope that through this flash mob, we can garner the attention of the residents and tourists of Shanghai, and rally them to celebrate this occasion with us.
The core theme of our 10th anniversary is focused on giving back to society,” a Shanghai Ocean Aquarium’s employee remarked, “In collaboration with Shanghai Ai Hao Children’s Recovery Centre, Shanghai Ocean Aquarium has also organized a ‘Dream Blue’ Charity Event for 50 special needs children and volunteers to tour the aquarium today”.
Since its opening in 2004 by Singapore’s ex Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, Shanghai Ocean Aquarium has hosted millions of visitors. At the same time, with the support of the society and its successful growth as a tourist attraction, the aquarium has built itself to become one of the most esteemed organization in Shanghai and in China.
Over the past 10 years, Shanghai Ocean Aquarium has bagged several achievements. In the next 10, and the countless of 10s following that, Shanghai Ocean Aquarium will continue to pride itself on its ‘visitors first’ mentality and philosophy, making it our mission to provide the best service to our customers. At the same time, we will continue our acts of giving back, regardless of whether it is giving back to mother ocean, giving back to mother earth, or giving back to the society.
