This National Day Holiday our Shanghai Ocean Aquarium (SOA) will introduce two new underwater “companions” to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. One is the underwater robot, a first-of-its-kind at public aquariums in China and the other is the strange-looking Sponge Crab.
Underwater robots are often used in the maritime industry or for the purpose of underwater research. However, this robot will “swim” in our huge fish tank, ready to experience the wonderful underwater world. Come and witness what the robot will bring to you as relayed on the big screen right before the tank!
The Sponge Crabs come from the Indo-Pacific region. They usually camouflage themselves by carrying a sponge on their backs so that they will not be recognized easily. Sometimes they also carry other materials such as a hollow piece of wood.
This year of 2014 is also the 10th anniversary since SOA’s official opening to the public. With a wide display of over 12,000 fish and aquatic animals of nearly 450 species from all over the world we hope you will always find something new and special at our aquarium.
